Hockey India CEO Elena Norman draws flak after abusing Team India captain in VIP lounge at Kalinga stadium

Bhubaneswar: Hockey India CEO Elena Norman invited a major controversy by yelling at Team India Captain and coach for entering into the VIP lounge, which is not meanth for any players at Kalinga Stadium during the crossover match between the Netherlands and Canada on Tuesday night.

The incident drew sharp criticism across the Hockey fans after national media reported it, which was later doing round in the social media. After the news came up, criticism against Elena Norman started pouring in from across the fan fraternity.

Elena allegedly hurled abuses at Captain Manpreet Singh and coach Harendra and some other India Players who were watching crossover match between Netherland and Canada on Tuesday and engaged in chatting with others, taking selfies.

“Shut up & Get Out. Who invited you here?” Hockey India CEO Elena Norman shouted at Manpreet, Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, Krishan Pathak and coach Harendra Singh were thrown out of the VIP Lounge for entering into the area not meant for Indian players,” Republic TV reported.

The players were made to apologise in public.

The Team India captain, however, apologised for the incident. He said “It was our mistake. We shouldn’t enter the VIP area, which is restricted for players. It is unnecessarily made an issue,” Singh said.

On the other hand, the Hockey India authorities clarified that not the players, but those who brought them in were yelled at because the players’ presence in VIP lounge could result in serious breach of code and it may lead to their suspension.

As per protocol, players are not allowed to access the lounge. A few Indian players including captain Manpreet Singh and coach Harendra Singh.
