International Chess Festival: Debasis-Short match ends in draw

Bhubaneswar: Continuing his outstanding performance in international chess tournament, Odisha’s grand master (GM) Debasis Dash (2539 rating) he held a draw with England grand master Naissel Short (2659) in fourth round of International chess festival at Abudhabi.

After the fourth round, he grabbed three points to reach 26th position. He started the first round after winning against Raiez Abdul Kadar (2242) of Syria.

In the second round, he kept the match draw against Omar Noaman (2553) of UAE and won against Saravan Krishan in third round.

On the other hand, International master (IM) Padmini Rout (2338) showed average performance. In fourth round, she was defeated from Russian Grand Master Danil Yuufa (2570). After losing from G.M Vladimir Fedoseev (2707) in the first round, she emerged victorious against Sahil tiko and K.priyanka in second and third round respectively. After getting two points, she reached 73rd place.

Another Odia player Siddhanta Mohapatra also showed good performances. After losing in the first round, he got success in second round and kept draw in third and fourth round against Inani Poyupa (2599) of Ireland.

IM Rakes Kumar Jena (2385) made a draw with Indian grand master Murali Kartikeyan in third round, but lost in fourth round against Arjun Irigaeisi (2517). He got 82ndrank on completion of fourth round.

After the fourth round, Russian GM Doneil Dubhav(2691) leading the table with four points while G.M Richard of Hangeri with ten others remained in second spot with 3.5 points.
