Jasobant Parida murder: Prime accused, aides arrested from West Bengal

Dhenkanal: On the run for last 11 days, the prime accused along with his seven associates in the murder of Dhenkanal BJD leader Jasobanta Parida were arrested on Wednesday night.

A special team of Dhenkanal police has arrested the main accused Rakesh Nath and others from West Bengal, Dhenkanal SP Santosh Nayak said at a press meet .

Rakesh who had a past rivalry with Jasobanta over contract works and extortion was arrested from West Bengal.

Rakesh used to extort money from contract organisations. But, due to the interference of Jaosabant, the organisations stopped giving him money. Moreover, his father who was also doing job under a contractor was dismissed from work.

In a fit of rage Rakesh had planned to eliminate Jasobant for which he hired a supari killer, the SP added.

Parida, BJD’s youth wing president of Dhenkanal district, was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Kamakhyanagar in Dhenkanal district on March 25. The 40-year-old youth leader was travelling in a car when the miscreants who came in a SUV had intercepted his vehicle and had hurled a bomb first. Later, they opened fire at Parida before fleeing the spot.

Parida was immediately rushed to a hospital where doctors had declared him brought dead.
