Dhenkanal: The prime accused in the murder of jeweller Mantu Patra was arrested from Dibrugarh in Assam, police said today.
The accused named Sanjay Kumar was an army jawan and was posted in Dibrugarh. “Our team reached there after tracking his facebook account and identified him by matching his pictures posted on facebook. With the help of army, we nabbed him,” Dhenkanal Superintendent of Police (SP) Santosh Nayak informed at a press meet.
He further said that Sanjay had an illicit relationship with deceased Mantu Patra’s wife Aruna for the last two years. He fell in love with Aruna through Facebook and proposed her to marry after Aruna lay him that she was unmarried.
Sanjay used to frequently travel to Dhenkanal to meet her and give her money. When Mantu Patra came to know about their relationship, Aruna and her lover Sanjay had hatched a conspiracy to eliminate him.
According to their plan, Sanjay with the help of Aruna had hacked Mantu Patra to death inside his house at Minabazaar of Dhenkanal town on September 3.
Aruna was earlier arrested in the case.
