Local ransack ambulance for arriving late in Baripada

Baripada: Tension ran high at Raghunathpur after locals ransacked an ambulance for allegedly arriving late leading to the death of a youth in Baripada on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Subham Poddar (19) of Padasia in Mayurbhanj district.

According to reports, while Subham was travelling in his scooty with his mother identified as Kanika Poddar to Kosta, 30 kilometres away from Baripada Town to attend a function, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the scooty.

While Subham died on the spot, the locals called the ambulance to take Kanika, who was critically injured in the mishap.

But as the emergency vehicle arrived late, the infuriated mob broke the glasses of the ambulance and blocked the road. Villagers also stage protest by burning tyres on the road demanding construction speed breaker in the area and adequate compensation for the family of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Kanika is undergoing treatment at Baripada Hospital. Police have arrested the truck driver, who tried to flee the spot after the accident and seized the vehicle.
