Lokayukta issue rocks Odisha Assembly, adjourned till 3 pm

Bhubaneswar: The opposition Congress vociferously raised the issue of delay in appointment of Lokayukta in the Odisha Legislative Assembly for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, saying the State Government’s failure to constitute the anti-corruption body was a mockery of its policy of zero tolerance to corruption.

Congress members led by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Narasingha Mishra created a ruckus in the State Assembly  demanding for immediate appointment of Lokayukta.

Like Monday, the House was adjourned twice on Tuesday following commotion by the Opposition Congress over delay in appointment of Lokayukta and implementation of Odisha Lokayukta Act in the State.

While the issue was raised in the Assembly during Zero Hour by the Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra of Congress, the same was raised today as soon as the House assembled to transact the business at 10.30 am.

As soon as the House met to transact business at 10.30 am, the Congress MLAs trouped into the Well of House and sat in dharna near the Speaker’s podium. Despite Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat’s repeated requests, the agitating MLAs did not listen forcing the former to adjourn the House at 10.32 am till 11.30.

As the House met at 11.30 am for the day, the Congress members also raised anti-Government slogans for the failure to bring Lokayukta in the State. Unable to run the House smoothly, Speaker again adjourned the House till 3 pm.
