Maharathy dares PM to hold ‘Maan Ki Baat’ on Mahanadi

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the State, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Supply Pradeep Maharathy on Thursday dared the PM to clarify his stance on Mahanadi river dispute during his visit and asked him to hold his monthly radio programme ‘Maan Ki Baat’ on Mahandai.

“We are proud that Prime Minister Modi is visiting Odisha for the 6th time. But he has to clarify his stance on Mahanadi and spell out what assistance he can provide,” Maharathy told reporters here when asked to comment on the visit of Modi.

Maharathy said that the PM should hold his monthly radio talk ‘Man Ki Baat’ on Mahanadi. He further asked the PM to spell out what assistance he can provide to Odisha.

The ruling Biju Janata Dal is alleging that the BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh and the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre are obstructing the flow of the Mahanadi water into Odisha.

The party is also targeting the PM for showing undue favour to BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh in constructing barrages upstream Mahanadi putting the interest of Odisha at risk.

The PM is scheduled to visit Odisha on May 26. He will address a public meeting at the Bali Jatra Ground in Cuttack at about 4 pm.

The Prime Minister’s visit is being held on the occasion of the NDA government at the Centre completing four years in office. The NDA came to power on May 26, 2014.
