Maoist sympathiser arrest row: Search operation begins in Gajamundia forest

Khurda: A day after a suspected Maoist sympathiser was detained by police from Begunia market in Khurda district, a joint team of Odisha police and Special Operation Group (SOG) launched search operation in Gajamunsdia forest on Friday.

On Thursday, the locals had caught Suresh, a resident of Potangi village of Nuapada district, on suspicion having links with Maoists and handed over the suspect to the police. He was caught while purchasing huge amount of grocery.

Sources said that the 20-year-old Suresh was cooking for the ultras in the area in the past two months and had come to the market to purchase grocery.

Police are now interrogating him.

Notably, at least five Maoists, including a woman, were gunned down in an exchange of fire with security personnel in a forest in Malkangiri district Monday.

The gun battle took place near Paplur area under the jurisdiction of the Kalimela police station when Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel were conducting a combing operation.
