Maoists oppose road work, torch 4 vehicles in Phulbani

Phulbani: Maoists dared to show up their presence in remote areas of tribal-dominated Kandhamal district again. The red rebels on Wednesday late night torched four vehicles engaged in road construction work near Balimaha village in Phulbani area.

Opposing the Kurtamagarh-Gumudumaha road construction work being executed by the Rural Development Department in the district, around 30-40 armed members of the outlawed outfit, stormed into a contractor’s camp and first threatened the people at the camp to stop the road construction work, reports said.

Later, they set three tractors and a JCB machine on fire, reports added.

The Maoists also left posters in the spot. The posters bearing the name of K.K.B.N Division of the CPI Maoists mentioned that the road cannot bring development in the district.

However, the construction is meant for looting the natural resources of the area, the posters said.
