Malkangiri: After a brief lull, Maoists once again unleashed terror by killing a man suspecting him to be a police informer on Odisha-Chhattisgarh border late on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sarpanch of Badasiti area of Malkangiri district.
According sources, a group of armed ultras stormed into the victim’s house in the night when all his family members were asleep. They dragged the person out the house after terrorising other member and took him to outside the village where they murdered him by slitting his throat.
According to locals, the Sarpanch was killed over suspicion of being an informer of police. The rebels had earlier warned some villagers of dire consequences, if they pass information regarding their activities to the police.
Police have seized the body and launched combing operation in the area.
