Bhubaneswar: The regional meteorological centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here issued thunderstorm, lightning and heavy rain alert for 13 districts of Odisha on Thursday.
The alert has been sounded for Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Anugul, Balasore, Kandhamal, Deogarh, Khurdha, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur and Cuttack districts till 7:45 pm.
According to an IMD bulletin, the latest Doppler weather radar and images indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and heavy rain likely to occur at these places.
People in these districts have been advised to stay indoors or shift to safe locations, if such weather conditions prevail.
Notably, average rainfall recorded on Thursday occurred during last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am in the State is 8.3 mm.
The highest rainfall of 36.4 mm was recorded in Malkangiri followed by 32.3 mm in Balasore.
