Bhubaneswar: Lok Sabha member Ladu Kishore Swain from Aska passed away late Tuesday night during treatment at Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 71.
He breathed his last due to kidney failure.
His mortal remains will be cremated at his ancestral village Pathara in Kabisuryanagar area of Ganjam district.
Born on July 8, 1947, Swain served as a member of the 16th Lok Sabha from Aska constituency in 2014 from the Biju Janata Dal. Swain was also elected Odisha Assembly from Kabisuryanagar in 2004.
Leaders cutting across party lines have condoled his death.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed grief over the Swain’s demise.
“Sad to hear of the passing of Shri Ladu Kishore Swain, MP (LS) from Aska, Odisha. He contributed immensely to society in various roles. My condolences to his family, constituents and colleagues”, President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted.
“Anguished by the passing away of Lok Sabha MP from Aska, Odisha, Shri Ladu Kishore Swain Ji. He will be remembered for his rich service to society. His work towards rural development was noteworthy. Spoke to his son Nachiketa and expressed condolences”, PM Modi tweeted.
“Shocked to hear the demise of Sri Ladu Kishore Swain, MP, Aska. Convey my deep condolences to the bereaved family. Late Sri Swain was an able parliamentarian as well as a distinguished member of state legislature. His loss is profound. May his soul rest in peace”, CM Naveen Patnaik tweeted.
In Odisha Assembly, CM Naveen Patnaik also moved a condolence motion which was supported by the Congress and BJP. Members cutting across party lines expressed grief over his death.
