New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: After nearly four years in jail, Mayurbhanj MP Ramachandra Hansda will walk out of the prison as the Supreme Court granted him bail today in connection with the Nabadigant chit fund scam.
He had been fighting legal battle since he was arrested on November 4, 2014. The Supreme Court today granted him the bail, his lawyer Akshya Mohanty said.
Earlier to this, his bail application had been rejected by the Supreme Court in April 2016 when he wanted to attend a session of the Parliament.
Later, special CBI court had allowed him to attend Parliament session for one day in CBI custody.
He was lodged in Jharpada jail after being arrested by the CBI. The central agency probing into the multi-crore chit-fund scam had seized around Rs 28 lakh unaccounted money from his house.
Hansda who had become the Lok Sabha member from Mayurbhanj on BJD ticket was later suspended from party after he was arrested.
