Bhubaneswar: BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday appointed former Minister Raghunath Mohanty as vice president of the party. He was also given the charge of party’s observer for Dhenkanal.
The former Law Minister was removed as BJD vice-president following his arrest in the much-hyped dowry case slapped by his daughter-in-law Barsa Swony Choudhury in 2013. He was also suspended from BJD by the party supremo.
He stepped down as the Law Minister after his daughter-in-law filed case of a dowry torture against him, his wife, son and other family members.
Mohanty, a five-time MLA from Basta in Balasore district, did not get BJD ticket in 2014 elections.
However, on June 19, 2017, Mohanty met Patnaik and at that time said that he would continue to work for the party.
In May 2016, Mohanty’s son Rajashree and estranged daughter-in-law Barsaswony law announced their reunion paving the way for the former Minister to return to the active politics.
Barsa, who had ensured the arrest of her father-in-law Ragunath Mohanty, mother-in-law and husband, credited Rajashree for the reunion.
