Naveen firm on equidistance policy, says no to ‘Mahagatbandhan’

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today put all speculations at rest on joining a grand alliance, saying that it will not support the big entity. Party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today cleared the air that the regional outfit will not be a part of ‘mahagatbandhan’ as speculated against the BJP-led government ahead of 2019 polls.

Replying to media here, Patnaik said “The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will not be part of the Mahagathabandhan. The party will continue to remain equidistant from both BJP and Congress”.

Patnaik cleared his stand a day after saying that his party needs time to firm up its decision in this regard.

The CM who was in Delhi yesterday to take part in party’s sit-in seeking hike in minimum support price for paddy, had told media, “We will take some time and think about it.”

Talks started doing round over a grand anti-BJP force since several parties, especially regional satraps gathered on one stage in Bengaluru post Karnataka assembly election during the swearing-in of HD Kumarswami as chief minister of Karnataka.
