Bhubaneswar: Hitting out at BJP-led Central government, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik today compared the saffron party with an empty vessel.
While launching the Jan Sampark Padayatra from a slum in Bhubaneswar, Patnaik said that the BJP has utterly failed to fulfill its own promises made in the poll manifesto. “It had promised to accord special state category status on Odisha in the election manifesto. The people of Odisha are still awaiting for this. We are fulfilling our promises. People are all aware who is pretending. BJP only make promises, but does not fulfill any one of its promises. It is like an empty vessel, which sounds much,” Patnaik said.
Highlighting the State-owned food security scheme, Patnaik said 25 lakh families will be benefited from the scheme. “We implemented the scheme only after observing large number of real beneficiaries being deprived of the central food security scheme,” he added.
On the other hand BJP countered the ruling regional party dubbing it as incapable of utilizing central funds. “Why the State is demanding for special category status when it failed to utilize the central funds? The BJD’ sound seems to be a publicity stunt as it knows clearly that Odisha doesn’t satisfy the criteria for special category status,” BJP state general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said.
The padyatra aimed at highlighting the state government’s welfare programmes and the alleged anti-Odisha stand of the Centre on various fronts.
