Newborn stolen from Patnagarh hospital rescued; 2 arrested

Bolangir: The newborn boy who was allegedly stolen by a woman from the Patnagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital on March 6 has been rescued by police today.

The infant has been handed over to their parents at the hospital after necessary medical examination, Bolangir SP K Siva Subramani informed.

The woman who had taken away the infant along with another man has been arrested.

The parents of the infant expressed pleasure after rescue of the baby. “I never expected that I would get my child back. But, I am happy that we got our child”, father of the baby said.

Jayanti Tandi, wife of Rudramani Tandi, had on March 6 given birth to a baby boy at the hospital. Later, a woman dressed up as an ASHA worker reportedly took the newborn on the pretext of checking his health condition and fled the spot with a person who was waiting outside the hospital premises on a motorcycle.

A complaint in this regard was filed at the police station by Rudramani. During investigation, police traced the accused duo after examining CCTV footage in which the particular two-wheeler’s registration number plate was visible.
