Normalcy returns to Ravenshaw after sine die lifted

Cuttack: The Ravenshaw University authorities revoked sine die closure order today in the afternoon following which normalcy returned to the campus. Students are gradullay returning to their respective hostel.

Vice Chancellor Ishan Patro had informed yesterday after academic council meeting to lift the order.

The examinations of all departments will be completed between May 17 and 20 and results will be announced on May 27, he had said.

The decision to revoke the sine day order was taken after students called off their agitation.

The students under the banner of Ravenshaw Chhatra Kriyanusthan Committee had resorted to strike protesting varsity’s decision to hike fee of courses and hostel.

They had staged a demonstration and gheraoed VC’s office protesting the decision of university authorities to hike fee including that of the hostel, vacating hostels among others.

The agitating students had demanded withdrawal of the notice ordering vacating of hostels. They also demanded withdrawal of fee hike decision, the appointment of a required number of permanent teaching staff, stop on an opening of courses on self-financing mode and convert self-financing courses into regular courses.

Later, students had sat on a dharna demanding fulfillment of their demands. As situation remained tense, the varsity authorities had closed the institution sine die and asked the students to vacate hostel as early as possible.
