Odia Hockey player Amit Rohidas selected to CWG 2018

New Delhi: Odisha’s Amit Rohidas has been selected in Indian Men’s Hockey team for Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, 2018. He was the only Odia star to be selected by the selection committee today.

Amit Rohidas, a native of Saunamara village in Sundergarh district plays as a defender in the field. He started playing hockey in his village and joined the Panposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela in 2004. He was selected in the national junior team in 2009.

Rohidas was selected in the senior squad for the Asia Cup-2013 held in Ipoh where the Indian team won the silver medal. He was also in the team which under Manpreet Singh’s leadership the lifted the coveted Asia Cup-2017 in Dhaka.

India is grouped in Pool-B along with Pakistan, Wales, Malaysia and England in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in Australia. The Indian team will begin their campaign on April 7 against Pakistan.

The Commonwealth Games is scheduled to be played from April 4 to April 15.
