Odia jawan among nine killed in Maoists’ ambush in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district

Bhubaneswar: One Odia jawan, among nine CRPF personnel were killed in an ambush by Maoists in the restive Sukma district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. While another two jawans, who were injured in the attack have been airlifted to Raipur hospital.

The Odia CRPF personnel has been identified as Manoranjan Lenka of Rebana Nuagaon under Brahmagiri block of Puri district. He was a jawan of the 212 Battalion of the CRPF.

The attack took place in Kistaram when the personnel, inlduing Lenka were out on a combing operation on the Mine Protected Vehicle (MPV), reports said.

The team of CRPF jawans of the 212 battalion was targeted by rebels who used heavy explosives to blow up the vehicle and had triggered several IEDs, police officials said confirming that nine personnel were killed and two were injured in the blast.

A statement issued by the CRPF said that the encounter took place between the CRPF’s 208 CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) battalion and Maoists at 8 a.m. today. Seeing the response of 208 CoBRA naxals initially fled away.

Again at about 12.30 pm Naxals targeted another team of 212 battalion CRPF in between Kistaram and Palodi in Sukma in which a MPV was blown off by triggering IED, the statement added.
