Odisha Assembly adjourned till 11.30 am over rituals mismanagement in Puri Jagannath Temple

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was on Tuesday adjourned till 11.30 am as Opposition Congress and BJP members created ruckus in the House over rituals mismanagement in Puri Jagannath Temple on Monday.

As the House met to transact the business for the day, Opposition members trouped into the Well of the House and shouted slogans, “Jagannath mandirare niti bibhrat pain dayi kie,  Naveen sarker aau lie? ”

As they didn’t relent from sloganeering despite Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat’s repeated requests, the latter adjourned the House at 10.31 am till 11.30 am.

Notably, the Mahaprasad, prepared on Monday, remained unsold due to serious disruption in daily rituals of deities at the Jagannath temple. The unsold Prasad will be dumped today in Koili Baikuntha, a garden in the shrine, as per the age old tradition. However, the Suar servitors, who prepared the Prasad, are demanding Rs 50 lakh compensation from the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).  They are now staging demonstration in front of the Lion’s Gate (Singha Dwar) to press for their demands.
