Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was on Saturday adjourned twice till 3 pm as opposition Congress and BJP members created ruckus targeting the State Government over irregularities in conduct of Tribes Advisory Council (TAC) meeting which has not been held for last five years.
During Question Hour, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, while putting a supplementary question to SC and ST Development Minister Ramesh Majhi wanted to know when the next TAC meeting would be held.
In his reply, the Minister said the TAC has not met in the last five years when it should meet twice a year as per the guidelines. The Minister also did not specify the next meeting schedule.
Upset over the Minister’s reply, Congress members led by Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati trouped into the Well of the House and shouted slogans demanding holding of the TAC meeting at the earliest under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
However, amid the ruckus Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat tried to run the House for a few minutes. But he had to adjourn the House at 10.38 am till 11.30 am as the situation did not improve.
When the House reassembled at 11.30 am, there was no improvement in the situation as both Congress and BJP members created ruckus in the Well of House.
Unable to run the House smoothly, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings till 3 pm.
