Odisha Assembly Monsoon Session from tomorrow, Supplementary Budget on Sept 17

Bhubaneswar: The Monsoon Session of the State Assembly will commence from Tuesday. The 11-day session would continue till September 20.

Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera would present Supplementary Budget for 2018-19 financial year on September 17 in a departure from the usual practice. Usually, Supplementary Budget was earlier tabled in the Winter Session held in November and December every year.

According to a notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat, discussion of the Supplementary Budget will be held for three days from September from 10 to 12 the appropriation bill would be passed on September 17.

The State Government also plans to introduce six bills and pass several legislations during the Monsoon Session of the Assembly.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress and BJP have decided to corner the ruling BJD on the floor of the House.

With elections up around the corner, both the major political parties have chalked out strategy to take on the Government over a slew of issues like non-disbursal of crop insurance, tardy pace in implementation of the Lokayukta Act, rampant percentage commission, irregularities in ‘Biju Yuba Bahini’, ‘Ama Gaon Ama Bikash’ programmes, missing Ratna Bhandar keys, corruption in the construction of Gurupriya bridge and deteriorating law and order.
