Bhubaneswar: A day after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) constituted screening committees to look after candidate selection process, the Odisha unit of the party today announced that it will make an early selection of candidates for the ensuing general elections.
Addressing pressers, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik said names of the 50 candidates will be announced by August this year.
“We will fight the election to remain on top in the state. I am quite hopeful that the people of Odisha will not commit the same mistake this time,” he added.
AICC president Rahul Gandhi has appointed VD Satheesan as the chairman of Screening Committee for Odisha while Jitin Prasad and Naushad Solanki are members of the panel, said a statement issued by AICC.
The screening committee would look at the suggestions sent by the state unit on the choice of candidates and make its own recommendations for a final decision by the party’s central election committee, which is headed by party chief Rahul Gandhi.
