Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has approved proposal for implementation of the Odisha Disaster Recovery Project (ODRP) in two Phailin-hit blocks of Puri district.
A meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) constituted under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 was held under the chairmanship of Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Monday (Apr 16) at the State Secretariat here.
The committee in principle approved proposal for implementation of the ODRP in two Phailin-hit blocks of Puri.
Subject to further scrutiny, nearly 4,832 families in Krushna Prasad and Brahmagiri blocks of the district identified by the district administration will be benefited under the project.
ODRP is previously under implementation in two other districts – Ganjam and Khurda. These three districts were badly affected by severe cyclonic storm Phailin in 2013.
At the SEC meeting, it was decided to conduct gap analysis between the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the ODRAF and to fill up the gap by strengthening ODRAF units.
The Chief Secretary also directed to launch a massive public campaign for raising awareness among the people on lightning safety.
The meeting was attended by Director General of Police Dr RP Sharma, Revenue and Disaster Management Department Principal Secretary Dr CS Kumar, Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi and Secretaries of Finance, Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Energy, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare, Works and other senior officers.
