Odisha govt’s ‘Respect to Women’ confined to only slogan: Dharmendra

Bhubaneswar: Hitting out at Odisha government over the data presented by SC/ST minister in Odisha Assembly, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said the statement of the minister implies to humiliation and exploitation of poor SC/ST girls and women in State. ‘Respect to women’ may be a slogan for BJD and its chief Naveen Patnaik, but minister’s clarification in Assembly clearly showed the insensitiveness of Odisha government towards the plight of dalit women, Pradhan added.

In a series of tweet, Pradhan quoted the Odisha Minister’s written reply in Assembly that 445 dalit minor girls and young women have survived rape in 2017 and 2018. The minister also admitted that 12 minor girls studying in various Sevashrams were impregnated while four of them delivered baby. The Odisha government has also made it clear that it lacks data on the numbers of girls and women of SC, ST category, who have migrated to outside the State, being the victim of rape and torture.

Pradhan expressed concern that the State government has turned blind eye into the plights of Odia women doing jobs outside.
