Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup-2018 opened at Kalinga Stadium on Tuesday amid programmes highlighting the achievements of Odisha Government and Bollywood glitter, as actors Shah Rukh Khan Khan and Madhuri Dixit danced and veteran singer AR Rehman sang, promoting hockey.
After Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik opened the mega event and highlighted promotion of the game by the State Government, Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri dancing to the Hockey world cup anthem “Jai Hind, Jai India” being sang by AR Rehman. The anthem has been composed by lyricist Gulzar.
The cultural extravaganza at the inaugural function, which started in the evening, continued till night. Heavy security was deployed around the stadium and in the city.
To make sure Cuttack, the millennium city and the old capital city of Odisha only at half an hour’s travel time from Bhubaneswar, isn’t left behind, the Grammy and Academy award winner Rahman will also perform at the Barabati Stadium on Wednesday. With him, this time, will be Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
A total of 16 international teams will participate in the Hockey World Cup.
