Bhubaneswar: Eminent personalities from politics and film industry in Odisha offered condolences to Bollywood thespian Sridevi, who died late on Saturday night after suffering a massive heart attack in Dubai.
Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik, Union Petroleum Minister and senior BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan, who hails from Odisha, senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik and BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra condoled the untimely death of the actor.
“My deepest condolences on her sad demise,” said Naveen.
“Shocked to know that Senior Bollywood Actress Sri Devi Ji suffered a massive cardiac arrest & is no more with us. My thoughts are with her family, friends & millions of fans around the globe. Her fantastic work & mesmerising personality will always keep her alive in our memories,” Union Minister Pradhan tweeted.
“Shocked to hear about the sudden & untimely demise of #Sridevi. Her passing is a great loss to the film industry. My thoughts & prayers are with her family, fans & friends. RIP Sridevi,” Patnaik wrote on his twitter handle.
Odia cine industries actor, including Mahasweta Ray, Aparajita Mohanty, Anu Choudhury, Anubhav Mohanty and Arindam Roy also expressed their shock on the death of Sridevi.
“I still cannot believe this. I am lacking words to express my pain. She was the first lady superstar of Indian cinema. It’s a big loss for the whole cine fraternity,” said Ollywood veteran Aparajita Mohanty while condoling the actress.
“I got up with the news today and was really pained. I remember her films during my childhood which was full of versatility,” said Anubhav.
“My deepest condolences to the family of the actress,” added Anubhav.
“This is a black day for the Bollywood industry. This is a great loss,” said Arindam.
Notably, Sridevi, Bollywood actress and wife of producer Boney Kapoor, died on Saturday late died reportedly due to cardiac arrest in Dubai, where she had gone along with her family to attend her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding. She was 54.
Sridevi’s brother-in-law and actor Sanjay Kapoor confirmed the news of her death. Sridevi’s body will be brought to India and her last rites will be performed in Mumbai.
Sridevi, known for her versatility as an actor, made her Bollywood debut in 1978 with ‘Solva Sawan’. But it was only after five years with Jeetendra-starrer ‘Himmatwala’ that she gained commercial success.
Sridevi has known for her performance is some of the iconic films like ‘Mr India’, ‘Nagina’, ‘Sadma’, ‘Chaalbaaz’, ‘Chandni’ among many others. The Padma Shri recipient was last seen in ‘Mom’ in 2017.
In 2013, she was conferred Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award.
