Bhubaneswar: As many as 8,000 Biju Yuva Vahini will be created in the State, where around four lakh youths of the State will be involved.
Government has sanctioned Rs 45.049 lakh for the programme which will be implemented in next three years, informed Sports and Youth Services Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera. The State government has also signed MoUs with Central government and International Sports Authorities to set up a world class sports academy.
Describing the success stories of his department, the Sport Minister informed in a review meeting headed by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik that Sports department is setting up mini stadiums in blocks and urban areas. The State government is spending Rs 20 lakh while Rs 5 lakh is being funded by MPs and MLAs from their LAD funds. As many as 314 blocks and 113 urban bodies have been included in the programme till 2017-18. As many as Rs 92.40 crore has been sanctioned for 462 mini stadium projects across the State, Behera informed.
Besides, the Sports Department has successfully arranged international as well as national tournaments in the State while Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 will be played from November 28 to December 16 at Kalinga Stadium in the Capital city of the State, said Behera.
Similarly, the State will be the venue of National Senior Athletes Championship and U-18 women’s rugby tournament to be held in September and October respectively.
