Bhubaneswar: In abid to minimise the environmental pollution, the Odisha government has decided to imposed complete ban on manufacture, sale and use of plastic carrybags. The restriction will come to force from October 2 on occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said.
He announced that polythene carry bags will be completely banned in the State in next two years for a clean environment.
Once the ban is implemented, it will cover polythene carry bags of all sizes and thicknesses, as well as thermocol, disposable plastic plates, bowls, cups, straws, cutlery, and pouches. If the ban is violated, both manufacturers and users could be fined
However, milk pouches, wrappers for processed food, dustbin liners, and packs for medicines, solid waste and agricultural products may be exempted from the ban.
