Bhubaneswar: A day after the vigilance court convicted senior IAS officer Vinod Kumar in a fraud case at the Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC), vigilance sleuths raided his house at Nayapalli area in Bhubaneswar to arrest him.
However, the anti graft agency had to return empty handed as the officer was not present in the house. He was also absent in the office today.
The court also issued non-bailable warrant against him as he did not appear in the court during hearing of the case.
Five others were also convicted by the court. They are Purna Das, Pradeep Rout,Chittaranjan Mohanty, Asish Kumar and Sanjay Mohanty.
Out of the six, Sanjay Jena was present in the court during pronouncement of the verdict.
The court also issued non-bailable warrant against the five officers who did not appear in the court today.
The financial irregularities to the tune of around Rs 55 lakh had taken place in 2000-01 during the tenure of Vinod Kumar as ORHDC MD.
During his tenure in 2000-01, the corporation allegedly granted loans to builders and contractors unscrupulously without obtaining adequate collateral security and not conducting pre and post sanction inspection. Moreover, no follow-up action was allegedly taken to recover loans.
A 1989 batch Odisha cadre bureaucrat, Kumar was facing trial for allegedly conniving, forging documents and sanctioning large amounts to two builders fraudulently during his tenure.
