Cuttack: Senior IAS officer Vinod Kumar convicted in the Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) scam received a brief relief after Orissa High Court today asked the vigilance not to take action against him on the order of lower court till further order.
The High Court will pronounce its final verdict on July 19. Three other convicted in the scam had earlier obtained relief from High Court.
After a vigilance court senior officer Vinod Kumar, vigilance sleuths had conducted raids on his official residence at A/23, VIP Colony, Nayapalli residence twice. The sleuth could not trace him.
Kumar along with six others were held guilty by a vigilance court in the Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) scam.
The senior bureaucrat was not present in the special (vigilance) court during pronouncement of the judgment Tuesday.
The court later issued non-bailable arrest warrants against six, including Kumar as they were untraceable. Kumar was the director of ORHDC in 1999 when the Rs 55 lakh scam had taken place. After the 1999 Super Cyclone in the state, the ORHDC had allegedly started extending loans to private builders and individuals without adhering to prescribed guidelines.
Besides Vinod Kumar, ex- managing director of ORHDC, Purna Chandra Das, ex-executive director (technical) of ORHDC, Sanjay Mohanty, ex- assistant manager, Pradeep Kumar Rout, ex- accounts officer, ORHDC, Chittaranjan Mallick, accountant (contractual), ORHDC and Ashis Kumar Nayak Gramya Bikas Manch were also convicted.
