Orissa HC stays elections to Nuapada NAC over ward reservation

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court put a stay order on the election to the Nuapada Notified Area Council (NAC) on Thursday after hearing a petition over ward reservation.

A bench comprising of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice B.R. Sarangi stayed the elections. A petition was filed by one Mahesh Nial.

The bench have also issued a notice to the State Government, Nuapada Collector as well as State Election Commission to reply besides, posting the matter to be heard on March 12.

Earlier, the State Election Commission (SEC) on March 6 had announced elections to Hindol, Atabira and Nuapada NACs on April 3. The model code of conduct came to force on March 6 and will continue till April 5.

The notification for the polls in the three NAC is scheduled to be released on March 9. However, the notification for the polls in Nuapada will not be released tomorrow.

Filing of nomination papers will continue from March 13 to March 17. The nomination papers will be received by the election officer at each of the NACs going to polls.

Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on March 19. While the list of eligible candidates will be published on Mach 20, the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers isMarch 22. The final list of candidates will be published on the same day.

Polling will be held on April 3 from 8 am to 5 pm and the counting of votes and declaration of results will be on April 5.
