Bhubaneswar: Over 700 teachers’ posts are lying vacant in universities across Odisha causing a sorry state of higher education. The posts are lying vacant for years.
Responding to a query of BJP MLA Dilip Ray, Higher Education Minister Anant Das informed the Assembly on Tuesday that over 700 teaching post are lying vacant in 11 universities across the State.
The Minister said while a record of 170 posts are lying vacant in Rama Devi Women’s University, the only university for girls in the State, 99 posts are lying vacant in Utkal University followed by 67 in Berhampur University, 46 in Sambalpur University, 22 in Shree Jagannath University, 12 in North Odisha University and 10 in Fakir Mohan University.
Similarly, more than 1,200 non-teaching posts are to be filled in these universities. A whooping of 543 non-teaching posts are falling vacant Utkal University followed by Sambalpur University (316), Berhampur University (191), Ravenshaw University (44), North Odisha University (47), Fakir Mohan University (19) and Shree Jagannath University (26), respectively.
Besides, no teaching and non-teaching post have been created for the Odisha State Open University, the Minister informed.
