Bhubaneswar: Popular comic actor Tatwa Prakash Satpathy, aka Papu Pompom, on Tuesday was airlifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi for specialised treatment. He is suffering from pancreas related ailments and jaundice.
The actor was undergoing treatment at a city-based private hospital here for last four days. He fell ill while busy in shooting for a movie in Thailand. He was airlifted to Delhi in an air-ambulance.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Cine Artists’ Association has extended support and given Rs 5 lakh financial assistance for the treatment of the ailing actor.
Papu, 38, hails from Kaptipada in Mayurbhanj district. A chemistry graduate, he started off as a musician, recording audio cassettes. Financial constraints forced him to take up a job with a local radio channel for a comedy show.
He moved on to television and films in 2005. His show Jaha Kahibi Sata Kahibi (I will speak nothing but the truth) on a local television channel made him a household name.
