Pipili rape verdict: BJP demands Maharathy’s resignation, gives him 24-hr ultimatum

Bhubaneswar: Protesting Minister Pradeep Maharathy for his atrocious statement after court verdict in Pipili gang-rape and murder case, BJP Mahila Morcha will carry out a state-wide agitation for seven days if the minster doesn’t step down.

The party will also organise a candle rally across the State today in the evening. It was informed by a joint press meet of Mahila Morcha president Prabhati Parida, Aparajita Sarangi and Pitambar Acharya.

“The party will take to the streets if minister Pradeep Maharathy is not dismissed within 24 hours for his ‘insensitive’ comment, hailing acquittal of the accused in Pipili gang rape and murder incident. The agitation will be taken to village level and will continue for a week,” Parida said.

Dubbing the statement of Maharathy as saddening, Aparajita Sarangi said the minister hurt 4.5 crore people of Odisha with such insulting and shameful statement.

“Maharathy has hurt the 4.5 crore people of Odisha with his irresponsible comment. It’s surprising and alarming that a minister of the Naveen Patnaik government, which is vouching for 33 per cent reservation of women in legislative assemblies and Parliament, made such an unacceptable comment,” said Sarangi.
