Rs 1023 cr central assistance not adequate for Titli restoration work, says BJD

Bhubaneswar: The additional assistance of Rs 1023 cr released by Centre is adequate to meet the requirement for restoration work due to cyclone Titli.

Speaking to Media, BJD Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya today slammed the Centre’s step-motherly attitude towards Odisha.. He said that the Centre should not treat Odisha like a step son. The funds it has released for Odisha to carry out Titili restoration work is not adequate. Odisha should receive funds as per its requirements as the Other State are getting, he added.

The Odisha government has issued a notice for discussion in this connection in rajya sabha. If normalcy returns to the Upper House, discussion will be held tomorrow, he added.

The Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday granted Rs 1023.59 crore towards restoraation work in Odisha from the NDRF fund. Earlier, the Centre had announced adequate funds from NDRF to Kerala, Nagaland and Andhra Pradesh.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had requested the Centre to immediately release financial assistance for repair and restoration work in cyclone Titli-affected areas.

Cyclone Titli and subsequent flood claimed around 70 lives in the State, destroying hutments, roads and bridges and uprooting trees and electrical poles in Ganjam, Gajapati and other southern districts of Odisha.
