Bhubaneswar: Sitting Salipur MLA Prakash Behera, who resigned from Congress on Saturday, joined BJP in New Delhi.
He was inducted to the party fold by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, party’s national vice-president Baijayant Panda, party Odisha chief Basant Panda and other leaders at party headquarters in New Delhi.
Behera is likely to be the BJP candidate for Salipur Assembly constituency.
Welcoming Behera to the party fold, Union Minister Pradhan said that the joining of the MLA will certainly strengthen the party organisation in the State.
Behera said that he joined the saffron party as he has faith on the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah.
On Saturday Behera resigned from the primary membership of Congress citing ‘neglect’ and ‘humiliation’ by the leadership. Behara tendered his resignation to the party president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday.
Assembly elections for the 147 member-strong Assembly will be conducted between April 11 and April 29 in four phases along with the Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, speculation was rife that Behera might join BJD.
