Sec 144 clamped in Bhadrak town ahead of Ram Navami

Bhadrak: The Bhadrak district administration on Saturday clamped Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the town for indefinite period, in order to maintain law and order during Ram Navami celebrations on March 25.

Worth mentioning that a communal riot erupted in Bhadrak town and its neighbouring areas after a Muslim youth on April 5 last year allegedly posted vulgar remarks on Ram Navami on Facebook. The following day, Hindus led by Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad gheraoed the town police station demanding the arrest of the persons forcing the administration to impose section 144 of CrPC.

The restriction was imposed today from 6pm to indefinite period till further orders by the administration.

“In order to maintain peace and law and order situation in Bhadrak town, the administration has imposed Sec 144 under CrPC in the town from 6 pmtoday till further orders,” said Gyan Dash, Collector, Bhadrak.
