Self-proclaimed godman Sarathi’s bail plea rejected

Bhubaneswar: Supreme Court today rejected the bail plea of self-proclaimed godman Sarathi in connection with case of harassment of woman and her daughter at Barimula Ashram in Kendrapara district.

In December 2016, controversial Sarathi had moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in two cases against him involving the controversial female medico and the one involving a woman and her daughter from Barimul in Kendrapara district who had complained that Sarathi had exploited them both sexually and physically apart from defrauding them of their gold ornaments and money.

Sarathi was booked on charges of cheating and forgery. The Orissa High Court on August 4, 2016 had granted conditional bail to him in this case. Another case was lodged against him by a medical student accusing the godman of molesting her. The Supreme Court had granted bail in the case in May last year.

Today the SC rejected the self-proclaimed godman’s bail plea in the harassment case filed against him by a woman inmate of his ashram.

This is a major jolt to Sarathi, who is in jail since 2015 after being arrested for cheating, fraud and molestation cases. In total, three cases were filed against Sarathi by Crime Branch, out of which he has been granted bail relief in two cases.

Now, since the court refused to grant bail to the godman, he will have to stay in jail now.

He is presently lodged in Choudwar circle jail in Cuttack.

The controversial godman landed in controversy after a video showed him with a woman at a hotel in Hyderabad in 2015 went viral.
