Dhenkanal: A day after a joint team of the Child Development Project Officer, members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the police raided a shelter home run by ‘Good News India Dream Centre’ NGO at Beltikiri in Dhenkanal district, where minor girls have complained of repeated sexual abuse, police on Saturday arrested Simanchal Naik, caretaker of a shelter home.
The girls have accused Naik of touching them inappropriately, besides torturing them mentally and physically at the shelter home.
A group of inmates of the shelter home had alleged Naik, sexually assaulted minor girls regularly.
However, Naik dismissed the allegation saying the children were levelling baseless allegations as he was strict in enforcing discipline in the shelter home.
After getting information about sexual abuse, a joint team raided the shelter home on Friday and found that it was established in violation of the Juvenile Justice Act.
As many as 81 inmates have been given residential accommodation and 47 of them are girls, sources said.
Most of the inmates are orphans, brought from different backward districts in the State.
