New Delhi: The newly elected Rajya Sabha members from Odisha – Soumya Ranjan Patnaik , Prasanta Nanda and Achyuta Samanta took oath as Rajya Sabha members today.
All of them took oath in Odia in presence of Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu who is also the ex-officio Chairman of the Upper House.
The three BJD members were elected to the Upper House unopposed on March 15. Soumya Ranjan and Prashant Nanda are veteran in politics while Samant is a novice.
Prashant Nanda was elected to State Assembly from Begunia constituency on BJD ticket while Soumya Ranjan, who was elected to Lok Sabha on Congress ticket earlier, had lost election in Assembly polls in 2014.
The three elected BJD members today assumed office as the tenure of party MPs Dilip Tirkey, AU Singh Deo and BJD-backed independent candidate AV Swami expired last month.
