Koraput: Top Maoist leader Damburu Khali, who was reportedly the mastermind behind the brutal murder of TDP MLA K Sarveswara Rao last year in Andhra Pradesh, has been arrested by Koraput police at Kodikhai village near Chatua in Koraput district today.
Acting on a tip-off, Koraput police raided the village and nabbed Damburu Khila. He will be handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA), said Koraput SP Kanwar Bisal Singh.
Several cases, including murder are pending against him at several police stations in the district.
Notably on September last year, K Sarveswara Rao, a TDP MLA and his party colleague and former MLA Siveri Soma were gunned down by Maoists near Thutangi village while they were returning from a programme at a village in Araku, a tribal area.
After the mishap NIA took up the investigation.
