Cuttack/Berhampur: Three dreaded criminals were arrested after encounter by police in separate places of Odisha today.
Two of them identified as Kala Babu and Alekh Routray were nabbed by Commissionerate Police in Cuttack after an encounter. They are believed to be the members of gangster Tito group and were involved in the attack of suspected Al Qaeda operative Abdur Rehman’s brother Tahir.
A special team of police received a tip off about their presence in Chauliaganj area of the city and the team raided the place. The criminal duo opened fire at the forces to which police also retaliated. The criminals sustained injuries on legs in the gun battle. They were admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
With the arrest of the two, total number of arrested persons in Tahir attack case rose to eight. Tahir was attacked by unidentified miscreants on March 29 near Jagatpur over tender affair.
In a separate mishap, Ganjam police arrested dreaded criminal Santosh Behera after an encounter near Rambha in Ganjam district today. He was rushed to Chhatrapur Sub-divisional hospital. A pistol, live bullets and his bike were seized from him. However, his associate managed to escape police.
A resident of Khandadeuli village of Ganjam, Santosh is involved in several cases related to bombing, dacoity and attempt to murder. The cases are pending in various police stations of Ganjam, police said.
