Three panels formed to examine SC directives on Puri Jagannath temple reforms

Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Management Committee on Saturday approved formation of three sub-committees to examine the Supreme Court’s three directives, including abolition of heredity rights of servitors, restriction on collection of donations from devotees and amendment of reforms at the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

The meeting of the committee was held under the chairmanship of Puri Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb, who is the permanent chairman of the committee, in Puri today discussed on the Supreme Court’ the 12 directives on the shrine’s reforms.

While one committee will be headed by the Gajapati, other two committees will be led by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration Chief Administrator (SJTA) PK Mohapatra.

The committee also decided to serve show-cause notice to as many as 24 servitors and temple staff for violating temple norms during Ratha Yatra this year, said Mohapatra.

He said decision to this effect was taken after inspection of CCTV footage of Ratha Yatra that found 24 servitors and temple staff responsible for violating temple norms during the annual festival.
