‘Titli’: Govt confirms 26 casualties

Bhubaneswar: Even as the unofficial sources claimed over 50 human casualties in Cyclone ‘Titli’ and resultant flood in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and other districts of the State, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) today confirmed that 16 people have died due to the calamity.

Gajapati district registered maximum casualties of 18 including 15 in Baraghar landslide, two in Labanyagarh and one in Anaga, SRC Bishnupada Sehti said at a press meet today.

More allegations of death keep coming from across the State. These are being investigated, he added.

He further informed that as many as 57 lakh people of 144 block in 16 districts were affected by the deluge. Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Kandhamal were worst affected. As many as 151 roads of around 900 km have been damaged completely. Paddy crops of around 1.48 lakh hectre have been washed away in the flood. All these cases are being looked into.

The Collectors of affected districts have been directed to disburse the ex-gratia to the kin of those were killed in the deluge.

All Collectors have been reminded to enquire into all cases of alleged deaths and ensure payment of ex gratia of ₹4lakh to the Next Of Kin in each case within 3days following due procedure. They have been asked to report on the action taken and make the details of payment public, SRC tweeted.
