Two-day police remand for Salipur minor rape accused

Cuttack: A POSCO court here on Friday allowed the Salipur police to take the youth arrested for allegedly raping a six-year-old minor girl in Salipur on April 21, on a two-day remand.

The accused Md Mustaque, is now lodged in Salipur sub jail since April 23 for allegedly raping a girl, who died April 29. The accused tried to end his life by using his gamuchha (towel) in jail toilet on May 1.

After the suicide attempt, jail officials have shifted him to another cell and keeping tight vigilance on him.

Notably, Mustafa was arrested within 24 hours of allegedly raping the minor girl inside a school campus at Salipur on April 21 in Cuttack district. She was admitted to the hospital after being rescued in an unconscious state from a school verandah of Jagannathpur village.

The survivor was raped, strangulated and left inside a school campus at Jagannathpur village in Cuttack district on April 21 by the accused of the same village, with the accused presuming her to be dead.

The girl had gone to purchase biscuits in her village but when she did not return after some time and there was a power cut. As the girl did not turn up, her family members along with some villagers set out to look for her. After a frantic search for over an hour, the girl was found lying unconscious and without clothes inside the school campus with blood oozing from her head and mouth.

She was immediately rushed to a nearby private nursing home from where she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Meanwhile, the accused was arrested and forwarded to court.

Meanwhile, Salipur police registered a case under 309 of IPC (attempt to suicide).
