Bhubaneswar/Malkangiri: Uncertainty looms large over the timely completion of Gurupriya bridge, the lifeline of people of Chitrakonda cut-off areas, as two pillar piles of under-construction Bridge caved in today.
These two piles of 16 no pillar have inclined to another side. The piles collapse incident raised question over quality construction of the bridge. The fresh mishap is likely to delay the project.
On the other hand, Works department engineer said it will not affect the construction work and bridge would be completed on time.
Meanwhile BJP legislature party chief KV Singh Deo condemned the incident and questioned the quality of work . He said that the matter will be raised in Odisha Assembly tomorrow.
Kolkata-based Royal Infra Limited is carrying out the construction work for the 910-metre-long Gurupriya bridge at Chitrakonda.
The bridge at Gurupriya would provide connectivity to people living in the cut-off area once it is completed.
The foundation stone for the bridge was laid in 1982 by the then chief minister JB Patnaik and again by CM Naveen Patnaik in 2000.
