Bhubaneswar: Hours before the scheduled State visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress today lashed out at him and his government for betraying people of Odisha and others.
Senior Congress leader and Supreme Court lawyer Kapil Sibal, who reached here to attend Congress’ ‘Biswasghat Divas (Betrayal Day) to mark Modi fourth anniversary in power, termed the Modi government ‘fascist and corrupt’.
“During his visit to Odisha in 2014, Modi had made tall claims to develop the eastern Indian states including Odisha. What he has done for the State in last four years in power? No special schemes have been brought for these states. The backward region development plan was also scrapped,” Sibal said at a presser.
On Modi’s scheduled arrival to the venue of public meeting in Cuttack district through helicopter, Sibal said that Modi is aware of the growing resentment among the people and for this reason he decided to avoid the road route.
Taking a jibe at the Modi government’s ‘Acche Din’ slogan, the veteran leader said sarcastically in a poetic version- “Na ‘Acchhe Din’ Na ‘Sachhe Din’ Modiji Hum Aage Badhenge Tere Bin’.
Sibal also raised the Mahanadi issue. “Can he (Modi) stop the construction of projects in Chhattisgarh for the interest of Odisha people? He has been ignoring poor’s interest and busy safeguarding interest of industrialists, banks, multi-national companies. His assurance to bring back the black money stashed abroad has remained within him,” he alleged.
He also questioned Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government in a similar manner. “BJD is raking up the Mahanadi issue as the general election is approaching. Thousands of people from the State are migrating in search of job while State has done nothing to address the problem. Unemployment problem has become acute in State. Education system has completely broken down,” Sibal added.
Stating that such type of politics of Naveen Patnaik will not succeed for long, Sibal said the Congress is against the Modi government at the Centre and BJD government in the state. “Congress is with the people and the people are against the Modi and Naveen governments,” he said.
