Jharsuguda: Regular flight service will soon be launched from Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda from March 31.
Low cost carrier SpiceJet will begin service on three routes- Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad. An eight-member team of the SpiceJet authorities has indicated about the service after conducting a field survey regarding the security and infrastructure facilities at the airport, Jharsuguda airport director SK Chouhan informed.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has called for a fresh bidding for four routes in Odisha under the third phase of UDAN scheme. The four routes are Jharsuguda-Ranchi,Bhubaneswar-Utkela, Utkela-Raipur, Jeypore-Bhubaneswar.
Flight operation at the second airport of Odisha was stopped 15 days after its inauguration as Air Odisha airline suspended its flight services. Air Odisha had bagged the permission to operate flights from Jharsuguda to Bhubaneswar, Ranchi and Raipur under UDAN.
However, the ministry of civil aviation declared flight service from the airport under third phase of ‘Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik’ (UDAN) scheme.
At a press briefing in Delhi, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had informed that the Jharsuguda airport will be connected to six cities — Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Raipur. Leading operators like Jet Airways, SpiceJet, Alliance Air and Turbo Airlines will provide the flight services.”
